Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, living legends? Yes.
And can I just say that if they both miss out on Oscar nominations for their roles in the King’s Speech then whichever people decide the nominations should hang their heads in shame. Thanks to these two actors, the film will send you on an amazing journey where you feel every bit of Firth’s frustration and anger, but by the end you’ll leave the cinema on a high.
When Colin and Geoffrey are on screen together everything just lights up, the witty dialogue and the emotions they bring out of eachother is all done to perfection.
The supporting cast is also perfect, its good to see Helena Bonham Carter appear in a film that doesn’t involve Tim Burton, and Michael Gambon shows how talented he is when hes not miscast as Dumbledore. The only minor issue I had was near the middle section of the film, there was a long break from seeing Firth and Rush on screen together and for me the film dragged slightly. But soon enough they were back on screen together and the world was ok again.
I do wonder if the Queen will watch this, seeing as it features herself as a young girl and I’m sure she’d find it intriguing to see how Firth and Bonham Carter portray her parents.
I highly recommend this film to anybody, I knew nothing about the King who had a stammer, my history on the Monarchy is awful but that didn’t stop me from being completely aborbed in this film.
Next week I’ll be watching Black Swan, will this be two classic films in two weeks? I hope so…
