For me Top Gear got boring a long time go. Whilst it was never my favourite show it had some great moments like the race from Paris to London. But as the BBC have said themselves recently, the show these days is more like a cartoon with clarkson and friends playing themselves up a little too much.
However I did read a funny article today in The Guardian where they have upset the Mexicans.
‘In the episode, broadcast on 30 January, presenter Richard Hammond joked that Mexican cars reflected national characteristics, saying they were “just going to be lazy, feckless, flatulent, overweight, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat”.
James May described Mexican food as “like sick with cheese on it” and Jeremy Clarkson predicted they would not get any complaints about the show because “at the Mexican embassy, the ambassador is going to be sitting there with a remote control like this (snores). They won’t complain, it’s fine”.’
We can all guess those words were said tongue in cheek, but yet the Mexican Ambassador has complained to the BBC over this. Maybe the comment about their food being like “sick with cheese on top” was a bit inaccurate but you can’t really complain about the rest. Other countries see England as a nation who binge-drink and have social problems, but we don’t complain because its probably true. I think some people need to get a sense of humour…
