I Love Japan

Seeing the amount of sympathy that Japan is getting, it’s great to see I’m not the only one who has a fondness for Japan. I’ve never actually been to Japan, but for some reason I just see the country and their people as extremely ‘cool’.

Very cool

Living in London I walk past many Japanese people all the time, and they all just have that ‘cool’ vibe about them. I wish I could pull off their sense of fashion and cool hairstyles, but sadly being a white English guy I think I’d just look silly.

I remember a few years ago when the Mad Capsule Markets briefly got some exposure over here, their music had so much rawness and energy. They also wore hoodies, and somehow they just looked cool. When I see an English kid wearing a hoodie, I just imagine its some chav trying to hide his ginger hair. But a japanese guy in a hoodie just looks cool.

Even their manners at the dinner table are something I should aspire to. When I’m in a restaurant and a plate of chips gets put infront on me, I’ll scoff them down as quick as I can, and when I’m finished, feeling slightly bloated, I might slouch on my chair a bit. If I’m feeling super lazy I may even put my feet up on the chair opposite me (I’m quite tall and stretching my legs is very important to me). But Japanese people have so much elegance about eating. I’m not tarring every English person with the same brush by saying we’re all slobs in a restaurant, but quite a few of us are.

Now then I know I’m probably being too genourous with the priase, I’m sure there are some Japs out there who look dreadful in hoodies, and there are few who probably don’t have very good table manners. I’m just saying what I’ve seen through my own eyes.

There are so many more things I could write about, from the amazing games of Nintendo to the gory films such as Battle Royale. The crisis in Japan really is awful, but I really hope they recover from it, and I’m sure they will.
