I’m currently trying to finish a short-story from beginning to end. I’ve had many attempts at writing stories and always quit after the first few chapters, this is probably because I lose faith in the story and it takes a hell of a lot of motivation to write an entire book.
However this time I feel different, and it’s not because I’ve come up with an amazing plot or anything like that, but I think it’s because I’m not taking myself seriously at all.
Previously I’ve tried many different genres such as sci-fi and horror, and I tried to be as serious and as ambitious with them as I possibly could. However my latest story isn’t serious at all, I’m pretty much free to take it in whatever direction I like, and for an amature writer such as myself its making the whole process far easier. I think the main reason I’m enjoying this is because I haven’t restricted myself to a genre, it’s just something completely random.
The story is about a vegetaran boy who goes against his parents wishes and eats meat. He then joins up with a bunch of rebellious talking fruit and veg and plots revenge against all the vegetarians. Its very silly and has various sub-plots involving adult love and other things.
Everytime I sweat-blood trying to polish a chapter I look in envy at all the authors who can write entire books. I can’t imagine the dedication and skill it takes.
I’ll just be happy to get this short story finished, though I keep going back to previous chapters and re-writing them. Will this story ever get finished? Hmm actually maybe not…
