I had a bad nights sleep…

Don’t you just hate those mornings where you wake up a couple of hours before your supposed to and you can’t get back to sleep?
Well this morning that happened to me.

I was disturbed from my sleep by a strange humming noise. Well at first it was strange as I was too tired to work out what it was, and with the window slightly open I presumed it was coming from outside. Then I realised it was my electric heater (on the cold setting) blowing away at full blast.
Strange i thought, as I never leave my heater on overnight.

So who turned it on? My parents wouldn’t have, and I’m not one of those sleepwalkers who does random stuff in the night. So who was it? I guess it had to be a ghost.

Now I’m not saying I believe in ghosts. I’ve seen a few when I’ve been under the influence, but I’ve yet to come across one when sober, and to be honest I’m not sure if ever I want to.

So rather than come to face to face with a ghost I decided I’d be better off closing my eyes and falling back to sleep. I had a long week of work ahead, and sleep nowadays is precious. However with that heater at full blast that was never going to happen, the noise was unbearable.
But there was no way I was getting out of bed, not with a ghost in the room. I mean what happens if it jumps out at me? i felt safe under the covers, so figured I would wait it out until sunrise.

I then realised something very annoying. I needed to go to the toilet. I tried to forget about it but the more I tried the more I wanted to go.

So here I was, deprived of sleep, with a heater blasting at my ears, a need to go to the toilet and the possibility of a ghost waiting to jump out at me. I was trapped in my own bed, and a part of me felt quite pathetic.

I then wondered, why was I so scared of a ghost? Could a ghost beat up or mug me? I doubt it. All it could do is jump out at me, and then what? Walk away and laugh?
Or maybe ghosts are misunderstood. Just like spiders, maybe they are more scared of us than we are of them.

I figured the best thing to do was just to man up and sort myself out.

Jumping out of my bed (and completely naked) the cold hit me as if i had just stumbled into a freezer. I ran towards the bathroom, and after closing the door behind me and avoiding eye contact with the mirror (you never know if a ghost is going to look back at you) I went to the toilet. 20 seconds later I was back in my room.
Now I had to deal with the heater.

I wondered what would happen once I turned it off. Would the ghost really jump out at me? Or has seeing my cold naked body scared it off?

I approached the heater and pulled out the plug. Suddenly there was silence. I then turned around, expecting someone or something to be there starring at me. But there was nobody. Thank god for that.

So I went back to my nice warm bed, safe from any evil spirits, and closed my eyes. Though sadly after all that I couldn’t get back to sleep.

I just kept thinking to myself, who on earth turned on my heater? I guess I’ll never know…
