Sometimes there are things in life that have nothing to do with me, that I have absolutely no business in, which for some reason really frustrate me.
What I need to get off my chest right now is this horrible coffee culture we live in, whether its sitting in a Starbucks on your own or with a friend or even ordering a drink to go. There is just something about it that boils my blood. When I walk around Central London all I see are coffee shops with coffee addicts. This frustration has been elevated by my Facebook friends uploading photos of their coffees (who wants to see a picture of a paper cup??) meaning even when I’m safe at home I’m still exposed. I mean seriously, why does everyone drink so much coffee all the time?
Coffee seems to used by a lot of people to wake themselves up in the morning. Some people just cannot function without it. Some people would probably die without it.
However there are some people who think drinking coffee will help solve all of their problems.
For instance you may be at work sitting at your desk, feeling glum whilst daydreaming in your own little world.
A colleague sitting opposite notices and slowly approaches you. He perches on your desk and looks at you sympathetically, and then asks. “Hey, you look depressed, wanna talk it over a coffee?”
Why coffee? Why is it always coffee? Are there not better alternatives? Surely a bar of chocolate or a bottle of vodka would be more comforting?
McDonald’s have recently got on the bandwagon and aired an advert encouraging you to spill all your problems to your friends over a coffee. You can discuss relationship problems or financial difficulties all in the comfort of a public place where everybody can hear you. Why would anybody in their right mind want to do that?
Takeaway coffee seems to be a symbol of power to the working world. It’s like a Karate man with a black belt or an Olympion with a Gold medal. I remember a few years ago I was browsing in a clothes shop when the manager proudly marched in with her PA in tow and large coffee in hand. Without that coffee she would have been Superman without the cape or Hercules without the hair, but with it she had the power to annoy her minions and check they were all hanging up their clothes properly.
I’m sorry to go on about something so trivial but I hope I’m not the only one with this view. Perhaps the next time someone offers to take you out for a coffee, just kindly punch them in the face. Eventually these boiled water fanatics will finally realise there is more to life than drinking coffee.
