Despite what most people claim, it’s quite clear that Summer is overrated. Whilst it might seem nice to relax outside whilst enjoying a picnic with a glass of wine, the reality is quite different.
I remember a few years ago an old friend of mine called Jim went to the park. He was flying out with his friends in the evening for a nice holiday in Spain, but with the sun out he thiugh he’d catch his tan early so headed to the park, but soon after he got there he was attacked by a small swarm of bees. He could only presume they were after his sandwiches so he threw them as far as he could, but the bees wouldn’t go away. It seemed they just didn’t like him so Jim gave up and headed home.
It was too hot to walk so Jim caught a bus, but he found it was absolutely scorching hot and he soon fainted, banging his head as he hit the floor. 3 days later he woke up in hospital, the nurse said he was lucky to be alive. “That damn Sun” said Jim. “If only it was Autumn then this would never have happened.”
Feeling gutted about missing out on his holiday, and with the heat wave still at its peak, Jim got home to find his house had burned down due to a local forest fire. What made the situation even worse was that he had no house insurance because the postvan delivering his application had broken down due to its engine overheating.
He tried in vain to stay around a friends house, but they they were all on holiday, and his parents were also on holiday too. Pretty much everybody he knew were on their summer holidays.
He then discovered his workplace had fired him as they hadn’t heard from him for a while.
Fast forward to Autumn, and things are looking up for Jim. The local community raised some money to buy him a tent, so he can now camp on the foundations of his old home. He doesn’t have any bills to pay so the job isn’t really missed, and now that the bees are no more he is able to sit in the park and enjoy a sandwich, provided he wears a coat of course.
Summer is clearly overrated.
