Every month or so we get a lunch delivery of various cheap and tatty sandwiches which I have to deliver to our staff training room, which is at the end of a large open-plan a office space.
This sounds like an easy task, however when you’re in an office full of people who act like they haven’t eaten in a month then it’s not so easy.
First of all an overweight man in the corner would notice the food and his head would shoot up.
“Give us a packet of crisps!” He called out.
I just smiled back in the hope he gets the hint that none of this food is for him, but then an old lady wearing lots of makeup and a wig would turn around in wonder at the food and said in amazement “Are all those sandwiches for me!?”
And then a strange bearded man with a deep voice would give me a glancing stare and say “Go on, give us an apple”
Now all those comments were quite funny the first time, but today was probably the 10th time this year I’ve delivered the food, and I’ve had exactly the same comments. It’s safe to say this is all becoming a bit tedious. In fact I now dread the day the food comes in because I just know what’s going to happen.
Maybe next time I should just give them the food and hope it keeps them quiet.
