Brown Rice

It’s fair to say that Brown rice is an unappreciated delicacy. Sitting in the shadow of its dominant white brother, it is often overlooked by most foodies and is rarely an option in most restaurants. The general view is that it just doesn’t taste good at all.

But a well cooked brown rice can taste so much better than it’s sibling, and is healthier too. As the old saying goes, why walk when you can speed-walk?

You don’t need any special equipment, just a pot with a lid. And a Hob is quite handy too.

Ingredients –

Brown Rice

Salt

Method

Pour one cup of rice into a pan, followed by 2 cups of water. Leave the lid on the side for now.

Heat on full until the water comes to boil.

Then turn the heat off and put the lid on top, and turn on the timer for 40 minutes.

During that time, you can make yourself a Chana Masala, this goes very nicely with brown rice. Or cooking rice is enough effort in itself, order a takeaway. When the 40 minutes are up, open the lid and poke at the rice with a fork, it should be nice and fluffy.

Serve and dig in, and ask yourself why you ignored the wonders of Brown Rice for so long.
