My wife took me to the Barbican Library today and I was pleasantly surprised by their huge graphic novel section. So much so that we signed up as members (though the member of staff we spoke to was very grumpy) and I took out a few books.
Winkles is the first one I’ve read so far. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great, but just prepare to feel perhaps a little anxious of how you might end up when you grow old.
It’s about a man who is told he has Alzheimer’s and there is nothing he can do about it. Nobody wants to feel helpless, and this story displays that beautifully. The story offers no hope of a magic cure, it’s just about waiting for the inevitable.
It sounds bleak but there was some humour in places. I highly recommend a read.
