Going Decafe?

I once wrote a blog detesting coffee drinkers and how they bring shame to the world.  I am now one of them.

I guess it’s just a part of the culture of working in the city.  After all, the city is full of coffee shops, with frequent coffee drinkers, and my office is full of coffee machines as well.  Coffee is everywhere, and if I didn’t at least drink the coffee at work then I would miss out on a free work benefit.  If I tried to move away from this culture then that would be a rebellious act, and that is not a part of my character at all.

In the not so distant past I didn’t touch caffeine at all, then my wife got me into green tea, and then my co-workers got me into coffee.  In the space of a few months I evolved from a simple drinker of water to a coffee bean sommelier.

But now I’m deep in the daily routine of my caffeine fix, I wonder what life was like before.  What has caffeine given me?  Has it improved me as a person?  Does it make me happy?  Which country produces the best coffee?  Do the farmers get a good deal? Do the hipster coffee barristers enjoy their jobs?

I do sometimes toy with the idea of moving on to decaf, but it’s just not the same.  I see Decaf as just a tribute act, and tribute acts should only exist when the original act is dead. I don’t think coffee is dying anytime soon.
