Technology has created many benefits, of which there are too many to mention.  But of course, when you create heaven you also create a hell, and so we also have many annoyances.  So whilst the smartphone brings many benefits, it also brings the speakerphone. 

We live in an age where headphones are cheaper than a pint of lager, but people choose not to wear them.  Instead they choose to blast out their phones content onto everybody else.  It’s particularly annoying when you’re on the train to work.  The person sitting opposite me is watching some TikTok rubbish, and someone further down is talking to someone about their very interesting life.

Is it a vanity project?  Is the guy watching reels doing this to let us know of the content he is watching?  Is the girl on the phone hoping we can all listen in on her life?  Or is it just plain bad manners?  They don’t care for the inconvenience of others.

Do I have the power to perform a citizens arrest on the next person who pollutes my ears with their crackly phone?  Or even better, can the tech gods just please disable speaker phones in public?
