I don’t really follow the championship, but every so often I have checked the table this season just to check on the progress of Wrexham. If you didn’t know, Wrexham are that club in Wales owned by Ryan Reynolds and the other guy. Every so often they appear at the games, their smug faces cheering whenever they score a goal.
I find it hard to explain, but I really don’t want them promoted to the premier league.
Why? Well, Americans are not exactly the flavour of the month right now. Also, we all know they see English football as an untapped oil well. It makes alot of money, but they can squeeze alot more out of it, and if that involves changing the fundamental rules of the game, then so be it. Promoting Wrexham to the top tier will give America more influence, and we really don’t want that.
There was a rumour that the owners wanted to start hosting Wrexham games in the USA. After a huge backlash, Reynolds denied it was going to happen, but with my tin foil hat on, I reckon it’s his endgame plan.
I know there are a few positive things they have brought to Wrexham, the youth academy and women’s football team is one of many. But to put it bluntly, they can do as many goodwill gestures as they want, they should not be in the Premier League.
