Don’t be a Noel

I don’t usually bother writing about articles that annoy me. After all, there is so much awful journalism out there, that annoying articles are sadly the norm. But this piece was on the Guardian, and I generally have higher expectations of them.

This particular article was moaning about the creator of Wordle, who a few years after selling his creation to the New York Times for £1,000,000, has developed a new game called Wardle. However, the journalist wonders why he has bothered to create a new game, and instead he should stop chasing the next big thing, sit back and enjoy his earnings.

“Yeah, my mansion is great, but what if I had two mansions? What if I was twice as validated?”

I just found it odd. A journalist doesn’t quit after one article, there is always an urge to write more. I presume the same goes for a programmer as well.

The journalist then awkwardly ties in the article with the recent Timothy Chamolate Ballet thing, which is old news now. My guess is she started writing an article on Timothy, but realised what she was saying had already been said a million times, so she mixed this in with the Wardle news, and ended up like a chef cooking a strange dish of 2 week-old potato’s with chips and croquettes found in the freezer. She ended up with a massively samey dish that doesn’t really say much at all.

Life as a freelance journalist must be tough when you have deadlines and nothing to write about, but if you’re suffering from writers block its not a good idea to take a cue from Noel Gallagher and rewrite something that’s already been written.

My lecturers always said that if you’re struggling for ideas, go for a walk in the fresh air, and the ideas will eventually come to you. But whatever you do, don’t be a Noel.

(Just to clarify, I do love Oasis).

Wait, does the nav block sit on the footer for this theme? That's bold.
